I spent way more time than I care to admit before settling on a conept that doesn't look awful, imo. (Given how basic it is...)
-This version of the Union Jack incorporates elements of the flag of St. David to represent the Country of Wales and to maintain the motif of the Union Jack being a creative overlay of all the tradtional 'cross' flags belonging to each constituent country of the UK.
-The Flag of St. James features a yellow, perpendicular cross over a black background.
-Just as Wales was absorbed by and subsequently devolved again from England, the representation of St. David's cross is broken off solely from the representation of St. George's cross (representing England).
-Half of the white background for St. George's cross is converted to the black of St. David's in a radial pattern mirroring the incorporation of St. Patrick's cross of N. Ireland.
-A 3/16ths strip of each red bar of St. George's cross is converted to the Yellow of St. David's cross- each ending with a square, two-pronged fork near the center. Each yellow strip borders the background converted to black.
-The forks in the center resembles a gold ring-mounting for a gemstone, representing Wales being a historical source of domestically mined gold and other mineral wealth throughout contemporary times.
