Communicative Kudzu

Mad buffalo with crystal fur. Bio-luminescent wheat. Birds with metallic fur. Stories of oddities and the bizarre have been on the uptick for a while. But such things always happened far away assuming the stories were true at all. No strangeness was to be found in their corner of the continent, until a few days ago.

Patches of yellow and red in their kudzu-overwhelmed property seemed to be random at first. An odd time of year for it too as it was still high Summer. The color lasted about a week, then returned to a healthy green. Not long after, however, the red and yellow returned. But instead of random blobs, it was defined shapes and glyphs.

At first they dismissed it as coincidence. But the red and yellow glyphs began to drift across the kudzu without losing coherence. The leaves would shift from green, to red or yellow, then back again fluidly, if slowly, to accommodate the animation. One day, they ventured deep into their property to investigate more closely. The pace of the drifting glyphs slowly increased as they observed the kudzu in confusion and awe. After a few moments of observation they realized that the vines were also reacting to their presence.
